Dedibox LT 2016 vs SYS E3-SAT-1

https://www.online.net/en/dedicated-server/dedibox-lt

So what do you think of this box? Its about the top of what I can get away with paying. I’m married, kids, etc. My wife would throw a fit if my ‘hobbies’ cost more than this so providers like OVH are out of the question.

I would raid 0 the SSDs. I can eat the upfront setup fees. It would be a long term box for me so the setup fee wouldn’t be a big deal when we’re talking spreading it over a year or more.

The issue with the box as I see it is the 500mb/s ‘guaranteed’ bandwidth which means I can burst to 1gbit(and I’m sure the raid 0 ssds can do that) but I would need to probably throttle it to the 500mb/s in order to keep online.net happy. It’s dumb how they word that guarantee. You’d think you’d be guaranteed ‘at least’ 500 mb/s not ‘the max you can use’ is 500 mb/s.

I have amazon cloud drive unlimited and google drive unlimited so I was thinking of utilizing those for plex storage on it.

It’s in DC2.

My other option is https://www.soyoustart.com/us/offers/e3-sat-1.xml

More space, weaker CPU and lower bandwidth(250mb/s up). It’s out of stock but I can be patient…not in a rush.

Thanks for your opinions.

Both are great IMO. Maybe I like OVHs network a bit better.

On a side note, I have one of those from SYS and they delivered a Intel Xeon E3 1245 v2 instead off the advertised 1225 v2.

I think the Dedibox-LT is probably overkill, I have the dedibox-xc and I’m never fully utilizing the resources on it. And, now that they are offering the dedibox-sc with a 1tb drive I would probably even be happy and comfortable on that.

One of the issues I’ve ran into with Online.net is bandwidth constraints to the North American continent. Which is fine for my use-case because btsync handles the trickle transfer while I’m away. But transfer speed typically averages about 300kbps and if this presents a problem for what you plan on using it for, look elsewhere.

I bought both…well, LT 2016 and E3-SAT-2

disk throughput on those SSDs on the LT in raid 0:
Disk Speed

I/O (1st run) : 1.2 GB/s
I/O (2nd run) : 1.2 GB/s
I/O (3rd run) : 1.2 GB/s

The issue is the network.

My goal is to setup a plex box with Amazon cloud drive or gdrive with multiple plex users…network speed will be important.
