Dashboard timing out while Plex is streaming

Hi guys, lately I have been having an issue where my dashboard is timing out when I am streaming Plex. I use Plex on my smart TV and try to access my dashboard either on my PC or phone (on wifi) and the page will time out, but if I turn off the wifi on my phone I can connect no problem. Is there some sort of IP limiter that isn’t allowing me to connect while my TV is connected to Plex? Anyone else have this issue? It is a gbit box so it is not a bandwidth issue, hoping there is a simple fix for this.

Quickbox is installed on Ubuntu 16.04 and up to date, few apps installed on dashboard nothing out of the ordinary during initial install.

Thanks

Hello @late,

What a strange issue
I think there are no limiters regarding anything on QuickBox (execpt if you installed CSF).

Your seedbox is installed locally on your LAN or you use it remotely ?
Did you look into Apache2’s logs ? (/var/log/apache2) at times that you look Plex with your TV ?
Which server have you ? Is it enough powerfull ?

While I have been only using quickbox for a few weeks I have had the server for a year and this is a new issue. I have not installed CSF, and the server is remote from me. I have not checked the logs I will have to do that when i get home from work.

The server is plenty powerful (Intel® Xeon® CPU E3-1271 v3, 32GB ram, 1gbit) and it’s no issue to connect from vpn or cell network. It is as if something is blocking the http traffic while I am connected via plex, my ssh session does not drop on pc when I do stream.

not sure if that is related but that is the contents of /var/log/apache2/error.log, ftp transfers stop as soon as i open the app on my tv.

access.log error.log.1 other_vhosts_access.log.1
access.log.1 error.log.2.gz other_vhosts_access.log.2.gz
error.log other_vhosts_access.log

are the files in /var/log/apache2

Do you have these errors even before launching the Plex app from your TV ?
Which smart TV do you have ? Does it transcodes everytime ?

It could be useful to install Netdata to have some performances logs regarding your system.

Yes I believe the errors are there before launching plex, as the other log has them every few minutes. I have a samsung and it direct plays 99% of the time. This issue is not related to the performance of the server as I have had at least 8 streams going concurrently without issues streaming, and i am able to connect to the dashboard fine from any other ip that isn’t streaming.

Is it possible that the SSL setup only allows for one connection via http and plex is using that connection? or something with ubuntu 16.04? my previous setup was on debian 7 without quickbox and didnt have any issues with connecting and using torrent client/ftp/plexpy while streaming.

This sounds familiar…

Have you, by chance, copy-pasted a bunch of “awesome” tweaks you’ve found somewhere on the internet into sysctl?

yeah these

This is why it’s really important to understand why we tweak the knobs we tweak and to test the changes we make.

Don’t add things to your kernel parameters if you don’t understand what they do. You paste something in there, blindly accept that it will improve performance and pray for the best. You’ll never even associate the thing that’s broken with something you changed.

hey i think that fixed it, taking those last 2 lines off after initial testing appear to have fixed it.

I dont think people give @liza enough credit. She does know her stuff. I’d recommend her tweaking services to anyone and I know my way around a linux box fairly decently myself
