404 error index.html

i would like to use the var/www folder to host a main site but keep the quickbox server side running.
Is this possilbe? as when i go to http://IP/index.html just gives me a 404 error file not found.

would this cause issues if i was to install a web panel on my installation? dont want apache to overwrite etc.
